Everything You Need To Know About The Mom Blog

Hey everyone, I'm Firedragon. I built the Mom Blog as a space for our YouSchool community to actually connect between Tuesdays, and I want to make sure you know everything it can do — because there's a lot more than you might think.

Getting Started

Head to the Mom Blog from your dashboard and you'll land on the feed. Posts are sorted by newest by default, but you can switch to Most Popular, Most Discussed, or Most Viewed — and filter by category like Parenting Tips, Recipes, Self-Care, or Milestones. There's also a Following tab that shows only posts from people you follow, so you can build your own little corner of the community.

Writing a Post

Hit "Write a Story" and you'll get a full editor. Give it a title, pick a category, write your story, add tags. Before you publish you've got some powerful options:

Visibility — Keep it private, share with all Mom Blog members, make it public on Google, or (if you're an admin) broadcast it across all co-ops on the platform. New members start at Trust Level 0 and need 5 community posts before their posts can go public — this keeps quality high.

Anonymous — Post without your name showing. Perfect for topics you want to share but keep personal.

Co-Write (Duo) — Invite another member to co-write with you. Both names and avatars show on the post, and they can edit it too.

Group Post — Post on behalf of a Mom Group so it shows the group name instead of yours.

Poll — Add a question with up to 4 choices and let the community vote.

Photos & Files — Attach up to 4 photos or files up to 100MB to your post.

Videos - Add a video up to 4 minutes long to a post.

Series — Writing something multi-part? Group posts into a series so readers can follow along in order.

Schedule — Pick a date and time and it'll go live automatically.

Fix Button — AI scans your post and corrects grammar, spelling, and punctuation before you publish.

Drafts — Not ready to publish? Save as a draft and come back to it later.

RSVP - Inviting people to a party? Add a RSVP to your post.

Reading & Reacting

Like or dislike posts, leave comments, and reply directly to a specific comment so conversations stay organized. Bookmark any post to save it for later — find everything you've saved in your profile under Bookmarks. You can also save posts into named Collections if you want to organize them by topic.

The Post of the Week is a gold-highlighted post pinned to the top of the feed — our admin picks one each week that really stood out.

People & Community

Follow any member to see their posts in your Following feed. Send friend requests to build your circle. Your profile shows everything you've posted, liked, and bookmarked.

Mom Groups — Join or create groups around shared interests. Each group has its own feed, chat, and members list. You can post on behalf of a group or just hang out in the group chat.

Direct Messages — Send a private message to any member. Find your conversations in the Messages section.

Leaderboard — See who's been most active in the community this month.

Notifications — Get notified when someone likes your post, replies to your comment, sends a friend request, or messages you.

Mom Call (New!)

This is something I'm really proud of — a way to actually talk to each other, not just type.

Mom Call is native iPhone calling — real phone calls through your iPhone's Phone app. Add your phone number to your profile (it stays completely private — no one can see it), then tap the green button next to any member's name to call them directly. Your phone opens and dials them like a normal call.

Mom Call also has Group Calls — check off multiple members and hit "Call Now" to start a Jitsi room and send everyone a Join Call notification instantly.

And Scheduled Calls — select who you want to call, tap "Schedule," pick a date and time, and everyone gets a save-the-date notification. When it's time, you press Start and Join Call notifications go out automatically.

You can also Block anyone from calling you through Mom Call, and manage your blocked list right from the Mom Call page.

Other Tools

Questions — Ask an admin anything through the built-in Q&A feature.

Ratings & Suggestions — Rate the site 1–5 stars or submit feedback and feature requests in the suggestion box.

I built this for us — for our YouSchool family. I hope it becomes a real place where you feel known, supported, and connected. Drop a comment on someone's post today. You might make their week.
